Friends of Brookhaven Park Committee Meeting Minutes October 27, 2008
Rebecca King, Jenny Trautman, Carol Haley, Stephanie McGarrity, Kelly Dolan, and Brian Drachman
1. Brookhaven Arts Festival report: great booth location, 72 new people signed up to stay informed, perhaps to participate, lots of questions re. LCI plan and why we should have to raise funds for park re-design; at times more people than we could talk to; kudos to Mike E., Jenny and Rebecca for fine graphics presentations. Many people asked thoughtful questions, many still didn’t know it was a public park. Many thanks to Bill and Gretchen Roberts for great location of our booth and making it available.
2. JH briefed committee on conversations with Kathie Gannon and Jeff Rader. We need a budget number. Ask big, according to Diane B. We estimate $40,000 max for master plan. Ask $80,000 or &100,000? Extra $ can be rolled over into construction budget, future study.
KD: “Marketing materials” should be labeled “community outreach.” Use odd number for fund raising goal (ie. 10,700). Makes estimate look more detailed.
Budget: Master Plan $40,000
Community Outreach $ 5,000
Costing, Implement. Budget $10,000
$55,000
We’ll ask DK County for $30,000 of $55,000.
Donors will ask about our membership. CH suggests we start a newsletter (“Constant Contact” email mgmt. program) in lieu of membership. If we could show many donors (even $5 or $10 donations), it’s attractive to foundations.
We have a total of 175 names from visioning meetings and Art Festival.
In meeting w/ Commissioners, ask re. permission for a banner on the fence. Parks and Rec. doesn’t respond to our requests.
Group to visit commissioners: Caroline Fierman, Jenny Trautman, Jack Honderd, (Brian available as backup)
Idea: get FoBP buttons for meeting with future CEO Burrell Ellis at his n’hood get-together next Weds. (Nov. 5) at 3522 Blair Circle. Jenny and Stephanie will coordinate on making FoBC buttons. Jenny will be there at 6:30 PM with buttons for those attending. As many as possible should attend to chat with Burrell and let him know of our interest re-designing B’haven Park.
